Welcome to the State of Alaska, Department of Health and Social
Service’s webpage on Telehealth Services. The Telehealth
Program is within the Division of Public Health, Community
Health and Emergency Medical Service, Primary Care and Rural
Health Unit. Over
the past five years, there have been very exciting developments
in telemedicine in Alaska. It is our hope that we can offer
you a webpage that is similarly dynamic and informative for
you. Your comments and questions are very welcome.
Purpose
of Program
The Telehealth Program's purpose is enhancing healthcare access
for rural and remote areas of the state. The Telehealth Coordinator
serves as a leader and facilitator for the State of Alaska,
Department of Health and Social Services in increasing accessibility,
quality, and cost-effectiveness of health service to all Alaskans.
The key to succes lies in the partnering with other units
and sections within DHSS, as well as other agencies and
telemedicine providers throughout Alaska.
Our
Goals and Objectives
- Advocate
for the development and sustainability of telemedicine throughout
Alaska, creating collaborative partnerships with key facilities,
agencies, and individuals
- Monitor
and evaluate key funding opportunities for telemedicine
providers in Alaska, and forward that information to key
contacts
- Monitor
the development of telemedicine in Alaska to ensure that
DHSS Commissioner and Director of the Division of Public
Health are kept apprised for future policy development
- Serve
as the coordinating and lead entity within DHSS in increasing
accessibility, quantity, and cost-effectiveness of health
service for all Alaskans.
