Emergency Medical Service Unit Programs

The Governor's Alaska Council on Emergency Medical Services, also known as "ACEMS," provides the Commissioner of the Department of Health and Social Services and the Governor with recommendations related to all aspects of EMS, including distribution of funding, and policy development.

The statewide do not resuscitate (DNR) protocol for physicians and other health care providers that sets out a standardized procedure for the withholding of cardiopulmonary resuscitation for patients that choose to participate in the DNR program.
CODE BLUE
This program was started in 1999 in an effort to identify, prioritize and seek funding for essential equipment for rural EMS in Alaska.

Each year, the Governor's Alaska Council on Emergency Medical Services recognizes accomplishments in the field of Emergency Medical Services.

CHEMS is working with EMS agencies across Alaska to develop a state-wide data collection system.
The Alaska EMSC program is designed to enhance the pediatric capabilities of the current system originally designed for adults.
The 28th Alaska EMS Symposium will be held November 12 - 15, 2003 at the Egan Convention Center in Anchorage, AK.
A program for acquiring hepatitis B vaccine for volunteer EMS organizations.
Human Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) granted over $400,000 to Alaska in 2002 for the purchase of AEDs in rural communities. Alaska is applying for additional funds in 2003.
This program is designed to help build and maintain a trauma care system in Alaska.
